To turn off Windows PowerShell 2.0 on Windows Server 2022, you can use the Remove Roles and Features Wizard or Windows PowerShell cmdlets:
- Open Server Manager
- Select the server with the feature
- Scroll to ROLES AND FEATURES in the right pane
- Select Remove Roles and Features from the TASKS list
- Select the server on the Server Selection page and click Next
- Deselect Windows PowerShell 2.0 Engine under Windows PowerShell on the Features page
- Click Next and Remove as prompted
Disabling PowerShell 2.0 can improve network security by closing a vulnerability point. However, some say that PowerShell is a core component of Windows and should be monitored and hardened instead of removed.
